The automatic cooling mode

The body warms up considerably in the sauna barrel. The natural reflex of our body when experiencing high temperatures is the opening of the capillaries in the skin and sweating. The evaporation of that sweat from our skin provides an automatic cooling mode.

The heart in action

That automatic cooling-down mode ultimately fails. During the sauna baths, our heart rate can increase by a factor of two. Our heart can then pump up to three times as much blood as in a resting state. Through our blood circulation, all the heat that the body can not release itself is stored in our large organs. Because our organs contain a huge amount of blood, they can temporarily store a lot of heat.

Protest mode

Once our large organs have warmed to about 38,5 ° C to 39 ° C, the body gets tough and 'tells' you to take action. There is no point in opposing this, even if the classic 15-minute sauna session has not yet expired. You calmly leave the warm sauna barrel for the first cooling in the fresh outdoor air.

Note: If you lie in the sauna barrel, sit upright for a few minutes before you leave the barrel sauna.

The first cooling

So the best first cooling is with the body and members in the fresh air. Because your body is hot through and through, you will not get sick, not cold, ... from that. No matter how cold it is, let your body cool down in the open air.

The second cooling

If you no longer sweat and your heart rate is normalized, you start with the second cooling phase: cooling with water. This can be done by means of an outdoor shower, a tilting bucket, a dipping tank, ... (see www.saunabarrel.be/accessories). Because your body also needs to cool from the inside, you have to build up the cooling. With an abrupt dose of cold water, the capillaries in the skin immediately close and the heat can not escape from your body. A languid feeling after the sauna baths is due to too rapid cooling and that while a good sauna bath is invigorating. Those who use the sauna barrel in the morning, followed by the proper cooling ritual, will experience positive energy all day long.

The repetition and the closing

For an optimal effect, repeat the sauna ritual (heating - first cooling - second cooling) twice. More allowed, but will give you whining 'extra'. A hot shower and washing with soap and water is not really necessary, because the body can not actually be cleaner than it is after a sauna bath.

Fighting the winter dip

Sauna baths promote the production of endorphins. Endorphins are small, whitish substances in the cells that provide a pleasant feeling and a relaxing effect. Endorphins also cause less pain in your body because they are a kind of morphines that your body produces.
Regular sauna baths in the winter is also a 'gift' for your body: through the removal of waste materials and the refreshment of the moisture reserves you are at your best the day after a sauna visit!
